An alternative to error rate

In Response To: An alternative to error rate (Timothy Chow)

In my Duplicate Backgammon Quiz I do assign values for awarding points based on the difficulty of the play. I KNOW that determining this is somewhat subjective, but one criteria I use is how difficult top players find the play; whether I missed the play myself; and when I asked players what play they thought was best, I asked then to tell me, on a scale of 1-10, how sure they were they had the right play.

If I felt that it was really a hard play, I would then award 10 points for the best play. If it was a relatively easy play, 5 points, and something inbetween for everything else.

I believe my point system, over a single duplicate match, is a better indication of which player is best than simply calculating the ELO or ER based on the evaluations of the moves.
