I agree that there's no need to limit the number of events--natural selection should take care of that.

I'm not sure why you prefer double elimination. I think double elimination is too cumbersome for a normal weekend event, particularly when the field is very small, like it was in Denver this past weekend. But I think DE is great for a long weekend with lots of players--i.e. Michigan. The extra day makes a big difference.
