No "sharks" here.

Then I don't get it. You can't argue that beginners/intermediates want a place to talk amongst themselves, and then also say, but we'd like the strong players to also read and respond. How exactly would that be different than bgonline?
Lets look at an extreme example. You show up at an ABT tournament and there are many great players there and you hear them talk amongst themselves and discuss some pretty advanced concepts. But most of them are very friendly and open and willing to talk to any person of any level and share their knowledge. You are in effect saying: "We're intimidated to talk to these guys that are standing at the next table, so us intermediates/beginners are going to get together at a place down the street. But we'd like some of you strong players to get in your car and drive down the street to listen to us and talk to us in this other location." Why would you expect us to do this when we're perfectly willing to talk to you in the room we're already standing next to you in? Sure if the room gets too loud and too crowded, it makes sense to expand. But its not there yet. For now, everyone stay in the room and don't be afraid to talk.
Where at bgo does it say "only advanced backgammon topics please"?
Back in 2006, I was a complete unknown on the ABT tour that had not played live events in years. I did not play online. I did not participate in forums. I was truly a "nobody" as far as anyone knew. I was a WC player, but nobody knew that. I was shocked to find that almost all of these "Giant" types were very willing to talk to me, to discuss things freely. They were friendly and did not at all give me the feeling that I was bothering them, or "who was I to be taking their time". There was simply no sign of any "sharks" in that tank. I never forgot that, and I always tried to have the same attitude towards others in this game. That same great group of people is here. Don't be intimidated.
