You may be right about dice being a showstopper for schools, but you may be wrong.
There are numerous games that involve dice, spinners, or other randomizers that nobody would ever confuse with gambling games. I doubt any 3 year old ever finished a game of Chutes and Ladders and then said "Mommy, take me to Vegas". Does anyone look at Bridge as a gambling game, even though it uses cards?
But the world is full of nuts, and this country has its fair share and then some. That is why if it is to work, it must be via a reputable national organization with a pre-packaged program and careful control of MESSAGE, terminology, goals, etc. Stop calling them "money games" and start calling them "point play". Dice are not there to create a game of chance, but to define your choices for play. Don't introduce doubling at all until the High School level. And then, only match play or some variant.
It is a challenge, but I hope you are wrong that it could never work. They managed to get Sex Ed into schools. Why not backgammon?
And I do agree with all you say about other good ways to grow BG. But my issue is not getting internet players to come to tournaments. My issue is how to get more internet or other social players in the first place. Accomplish that, and live tournament attendence will take care of itself. Television would be HUGE.
