That's a fair question, but my personal opinion is that the law is much less about technicalities and loopholes than people generally think. In most cases, the result lines up with most people's conception of basic fairness, but of course we tend to hear about the outrageous cases and not the run-of-the-mill ones.

For example, the law of business contracts (the Uniform Commercial Code) was written specifically to codify the way that companies tend to do business with one another in the real world. Other areas are murkier of course, particularly the ones where we inherited lots of silly formalistic requirements from the common law of merry old England.
