For every position that the bots wind up not understanding at all, you'll take a bath in the 50 other positions that it understands perfectly fine. Intentionally getting yourself to a -0.500 position in order exploit a bots 0.08 misunderstanding of the position is an exercise in futility. Good luck trying.

Rich, maybe you should try it yourself and see how you do.

The bots do play backgames better than they used to. But Gnubg (I don't have Snowie) has terrible trouble evaluating games with many checkers back that are not yet backgames. Your numbers are way off. The idea, rather, is to (1) steer the game in the direction you want to take it most of the time, then (2) reach a position where your equity is positive against the bot, and yet the bot will give you the cube, after which you (3) reach a position in which you are an overwhelming favorite but the bot will still take your redouble. As in beaver a drop. Really.

I'm confident that an expert player can whup Gnubg's butt in a "point game" session by exploiting evaluation weaknesses. It's harder in a match, because the bot gets equity table cagy, and it's harder to get the cube up to 8, or 16, or 32.
