As an extension of a couple of Ray's comments it was nice to see a few new faces in the Championship Division at Peoria and to see them do well.
Michael Flohr, as Ray noted, had a great run ended by losing to John O'Hagan in the Consolation final. He also made it to the Championship semi-finals before losing to go into the Consolation.
Gerry Tansey (I may be wrong on the spelling) was a new face to me in the Championship Division and had a very nice tournament. He lost to me in the quarter-finals (and I was damn lucky to come back from 8-10 Crawford), he lost to Michael Flohr in the Consolation semi-finals, and he won the Last Chance (I think over MCG, and we all know that is no easy task). Ray said Tansey is a very highly ranked player on GG. I wasn't around for the Last Chance final, but prior to that, Gerry had told me every match he had played for the weekend had gone to DMP.
Also, Rose Sheedy, who has had considerable ABT success in the Intermediate Division, moved up to the Championship and performed well. I think she got to the Last Chance semi-finals. She was selected as my Calcutta partner in their fun and interesting Calcutta format.
My congratulations to Michael, Gerry, and Rose.
One interesting coincidental sidenote from the tourney involved the Calcutta and the main draw. There were 17 two person teams selected by buyers (one from each of two lists) and the remaining four players were assigned to a single team. Of the 17 two person teams, three teams drew their partners in the first round -- Rose and I, Ray and Faddoul Khoury as I recall, and I think CJC and Lucky.
