Not to be a contrarian (or a jokester, both of which I'm very capable), but if I thought someone had a frequent problem of doubling while TG I'd say s/he's real problem is not doubling early enough.

The alternately worded form of Woolsey's Rule applies: If you're not absolutely sure the position is a pass, then double.

I realize your friend may be overdoing this rule, though.
