Each player could be assigned a unique number at tournament start. The 5-0 player plays the first player after him on the list of the 4-1 players that he has not yet played.

Exactly. I think I posted about this recently, describing how to conduct a Swiss tournament with a manual draw. Obviously, a computerized draw could do the same.

And, btw, the ordering of players by a unique number also solves the problem of: how do you make pairings of opponents with like records in any round?
