I'm going to regret replying to this post :)

Forget for a moment that we don't like the current rule. You and I play a match to 9, that should have been a match to 7, and of course each of us got to one of the numbers first but not the other. In each case, you are the one to notice after one of us reached 9 that we should have been playing to 7. Suppose you were first to 9, so I was first to 7. Being the good guy that you are, you inform the director of the problem and based on the rules I get the win. Suppose you were first to 7. Are you going to keep quiet? We have already established that you are a good guy, but are you a chump? It seems to me that the only way to be fair all around here is just to follow the rules, take the rub when it goes your way and remember that you were at fault when it goes the other.

And of course, try and get bad rules changed.
