Wisconsin Backgammon Championship Tournament format

I'm thinking about letting all players play first five rounds. It doesn't matter if they have 0-3, 1-3 or 0-4 - every player has five matches guaranteed.

Then, after the fifth round, those with three or more losses are out. That's exactly half of the players. Other half of players are still in for next rounds. After each round, players with three losses are eliminated.

Your thoughts?

Say I lose my first three matches. What am I playing for after that?
