Simborg's Chouette Rule

It doesn't even out for the top players like Jake and Matt who would make better plays in those positions.
The position that 'Stick' posted is an actual situation from a chouette (we were 3-handed) where I was the box holding cubes and threw 21, they didn't roll a set, and I rolled 61 and saved with 4/1 and 12/6 1/o.
"Purists" like Jake and Matt and others don't like the rule....but the majority rules and our majority simply doesn't like to sit there and watch someone spend 5 minutes counting all the ways to get off the gammon on the next roll when it probably isn't going to matter any way and when his decision is often just a guess anyway.
I don't hate the rule, honestly, as long as everyone knows about the rule and knows what they are doing...esp. since the rule applies any time you get down to 4 checkers, so you can end up oweing 3 or 4 "bests"...if you have a high bearoff structure you definitely shouldn't rip aggressively for a gammon when it is close as it will often get saved anyway since it wastes much closer to 0 pips coming home.
Anyway, it's definitely not the worst rule in the chouette.
