Really well said! Thank you, as always, Richard. We directors strive to make the events flow well. And, YES, the side events are important to keeping us out of the RED. Close monitoring by the staffs is key to preventing or reacting to conflicts in scheduling. BUT THE BEST PLAN is to plan ahead, how things need to go, what to do early on, and tight monitoring.

If we clock in the beginning, we significantly reduce the chance for major delays --you cannot monitor all the early round matches effectively to catch the potential slow ones, so CLOCKING for the OPEN division is has become a great solution.

Playing with 12 seconds FREE per move can still lead to long matches, because good players can "never run out of time" by playing instinctively if their clock ever gets near to running out. But that becomes the very rare case.
