I brought this up here about two months ago. Even in the simplest case, one cannot quite model the situation accurately using the usual vocabulary of takepoints, gammon prices, etc. I think the best first approximation is to imagine that you get a certain fixed bonus B for being in the box. Note that this means that not only will you be more willing to take bad positions; it will also affect your optimal checker play. An interesting topic for research, but given the complexities of real-life chouettes, I'm not sure that trying to quantify this issue (as opposed to simply relying on intuition and experience) will be of much practical value.
