A Puzzle that Reall matters

It's not just about the money...it truly is a fascinating, complex competition, and those of you who don't see that or understand that,
Hey, that part I get... your question as originally posed is perfectly fine. I'm all for interesting puzzles about backgammon.
or think that those of us who play chouette almost every day are doing it just for the money, simply are making a judgement about others that is not completely correct or fair.
So be it. I do happen to think that people who play in chouettes a lot are doing it more for the money than they'll admit. For many people, what I've said is absolutely correct. And as for fairness? Oh dickitty duck, I just said something slightly offensive. And really, who cares what I think... if you want to go play chouettes just to fleece somebody, do it. People gamble all the time, even knowing that they're going to lose. I'm not sitting here feeling sorry for the uberfish in your chouette, quite the contrary.
Part of what I'm getting at is an indictment of the backgammon community as a whole -- which puts me squarely in my own crosshairs. Bridge players play in tournaments with no prize money... they do it for the glory and the hardware and the "master points" -- this idea is laughable to backgammon people. We've created a culture where money rules... even some of the terminology (money game, cash the game) is money-centric. Let's not go overboard here -- I'm not advocating a model like in bridge, but a few more people who are interested in something other than the money would be nice.
Finally, I'll go back to another thread. If it's primarily about an intellectual challenge, then you'd kick the assholes out of your chouette. But, as you yourself wrote:
"We have to allow assholes to play, as, in the majority of cases, the assholes are also the fish." -- Phil SimborgYou can say it's not about the money, but remarks like that lead me to conclude otherwise.
