Ray always does things like this -- I think strictly from a sense of generosity and appreciation.

When he wins he usually takes the tournament staff to dinner and/or 'tips' the tournament staff from his winnings. He and Harvey Gillis organized a 'pass the hat' campaign in Colorado to help Lynda Clay with expenses. I believe he and Norm Wiggins have sponsored the trophies in LA before.

Others do similar things -- Frank Talbot has been a Michigan tourney sponsor for years.

I don't see any of these actions as other than what they are, nor as any cause for concern. We would be fortunate if others were as generous with their time, money, and thoughts.

I think it would quickly become very suspicious, and ultimately obvious, if a devious player and a duplicitous director colluded in any way. Thankfully, I don't see that happening -- at least among the players and directors with whom I am familiar (and I know Ray very well and Chiva fairly well -- and have considerable respect for both).
