It is easy when one knows the individuals involved to say that there will be no problems stemming from this transaction. However, that leaves open the theoretical question of whether or not this could be a problem elsewhere. If a director and player choose to "help" each other, there is little that could be done to detect the problem. The co-conspiritors would be unlikely to announce their arrangement at a trophy cerimony.

If a director is in any way tainted by a preference for one player or another, he or she should recuse themselves from any rulings involving the player. I play in my wife Linda's ABT event. If I was ever to require a ruling, I am sure that we would have a director not associated with the tournament step in and rule in Linda's place. One just needs to trust that a director would do what is right if the situation arises.
