An ethics issue raised in Paris?

"I don´t think it is in the spirit of backgammon to win a match based on some mistake done by a player who normally wouldn´t do them, just because he is nervous or unexperienced. Fair play means we play a fair game of backgammon without the silly games of how to enforce a penalty on a mistake. If both players acknowledge that such an error was made and it´s a mistake, no need to change the game and the outcome of it. Be a gentleman and let your opponent correct his mistake. That´s fair-play."
I just want to make sure I am understanding this. Supposing that a player makes an illegal move such as moving 7 instead of 6, hits the clock and then realizes his error you would rule that it could be replayed?
