Rules discussion 1, calling attention to illegal plays

I find it perfectly acceptable to call out the illegal move as soon as possible, especially if you have no intent to let the move stand. One of the problems with the current rules is that if you allow your opponent to make the illegal move and pick up his dice, what if the opponent disagrees about what the dice were? Often an illegal move is made because the player rolls a 6-3 and plays a 5-3 thinking that he rolled a 5-3. Or, after the dice are picked up, the other player says he rolled a 6-3 and maybe he was the one who was mistaken. So call it quickly to make sure there is no questions about what the dice were.
But as I've stated elsewhere, I would love to see the whole rule revised to require all moves to be legal moves.
