But to support the standards and refrain from pissing off Chuck (who I don't think reads my posts anymore anyway :) it'd be nice if you stated if bots were consulted.

I was not aware of any 'flap' regarding you (or anyone else) on this subject. I always read your posts. (I read a lot worse than yours. :) I've never suspected you of trying to take credit for a bot play.

The issue is twofold: 1) it is common courtesy to give credit where it is due; 2) it is dishonest to let on that an idea is yours when it isn't. I don't understand some (and I hope it is "very few") people's double standard -- a bot doesn't deserve respect. On a similar subject I remember a post by David Montgomery on why SW had a low(er than expected) rating on GamesGrid. His speculation was that (more so than in human-vs-human competition) people would drop matches against the bot when losing and those matches expired without an affect on the ratings. I.e. They treated the bot with less honor than they would a human.

Also, I make it a habit to go overboard in applying the "benefit of doubt" principle. It took a lot of evidence to conclude someone was doing what I got steamed about. Suffice it to say that I've monitored a particular person's posts for 2+ YEARS and the times that person's opinion was different than GNU-bg: I won't give you the exact number other than to say you could count it on zero hands.
