Touch move clearly cuts down on cheating possibilities and also accusations of cheating as in this case, my opp clearly was a bit nervous and made unintentional mistakes.

I agree with the part about cutting down cheating possibilities. But, what concerns me most about playing touch-move is the thought that more people would be even more nervous causing even more unintentional mistakes. The potential result could be even higher error rates by the lesser experienced players. Combining this with the recent addition of clocks (noting I thouroghly enjoy playing with clocks as it actually slows down my play and makes me a better player) gives an even greater advantage to the best players. If we want to grow the game of Backgammon we need to stop giving the best players bigger advantages. Some people also don't see the board the way others do. I would never consider playing in a touch-move tourney as I need to see the resulting position when there are multiple options for making a play. The best example would be double twos. They are widely considered the toughest roll to play as is. I couldn't imagine trying to make a complax play with five or six possibilities without being able to see each resulting position and then eliminating plays till I find my best.

I have a great deal of respect for the great players in our game but very much disagree with their push to make this game even more challenging. If they want to play touch-move they are more than welcome to play against others who desire to play touch-move. I would also consider having a touch-move side event at the Chicago Open and encourage other TD's to do the same. It will be interesting to see how much participation there will be for such an event.
