potential trial

"I'd need a certain number of take-backs per game/match just so that, in the developmental stage, I don't get crushed by some touch that turns out to be devastating."
I think that this highlights the problem with "touch move" in backgammon. Unlike most other board games, the move in backgammon is not an atomic operation. It is actually comprised of multiple "moves" with the actual possibility of up to 8 checkers (player's and opponent's) being relocated with a single play. It is just too easy to make a partial play and realize that it just doesn't work. As I've already stated, the effort to avoid these mishaps will slow down the game and I believe that the damage to the game because of slow play will exceed the damage because players messed up the position and nobody could agree on how to restore it.
I am open minded and I am willing to experiment with touch move in side events including Masters, but would want at least a 2/15 TC for clocks during such a trial as I believe that the per-move time will need to increase.
