That sounds unusual. I don't understand him checking the turn with a good kicker to his ace and a flush draw out there unles the flop bet was pretty good sized and the call was from a conservative player. Maybe the other player was the preflop raiser from early positon and he was wary of a trap.
I think the problem is that we don't see enough of the regular hands. So we don't know if the guy who bet on the end is someone who tends to check on the turn if they are drawing or if they prefer to bet to represent already having a made hand. Or if they are the type who will represent a flush on the end if smelling weakness or not.
But without the announcers giving us their opinions of those factors (they've seen a lot more of the play then the TV audience) their "great laydown" doesn't mean much to me. It could actually be a weak/tight laydown but he was right that one time.
I must be an oddball because I like tv poker without knowing the hole cards. I prefer to be thinking "I'd have called" without knowing the cards, then seeing that if I called I'd have won and saying "well I'D have called that obvious bluff!". But tv poker didn't take off at all until the hole card cameras showed up. To little information for most people to be interested I guess.
