Poker vs Backgammon

1. Both games are easy to learn but hard to master. A complete novice will find poker a bit easier. The setup, movement, hit, bar, bear-off, doubles, etc. are more complicated for a beginner than the more easier rules of poker.
2. BG is constant decision-making, but with exprience, a few things become obvious and automatic.
3. BG is played between 2 players, you donīt have to focus at the same time on 6,7,8,10,11 other opponents.
4. There is nothing hidden in BG. If you can read the board and youīve done your homeworks, there is no secret hidden. The concept of hole cards in poker is an added element of incertainty.
5. The psychological aspect is much more important in poker. While you have to know the odds, you will also have to spend a considerable effort studying your opponents and their behaviours in the game, try to read them and their hands.
6. While poker offers much more action (very popular everywhere and much more players and money involved), BG is much more social. Having put the element of competition and money aside, you can always enjoy a few games of backgammon with your friend at the pool or on a beach, while the same scenario becomes impossible with poker.
7. Usually, those who are solid and good in both games, prefer poker for the action and the money, but they prefer bg as a pure game. The day bg will offer the same range of prize money than poker (yes, letīs dream a bit), Iīm sure most of the lost souls will be back to BG.
