I don't disagree with you, but my point was another one, about variance in backgammon tournaments.

Btw, since we have Nack as a new member, here's a nice quote in that regard from an old GV interview.

"Backgammon can be very streaky. Any player that plays long enough will go through long periods, sometimes years, without winning a tournament, and other periods where he/she will win several within the same year. People seem to have a need to attribute having played better during the winning period, as if they are in control, but I believe that these hot and cold streaks are mostly a matter of dice."
