I agree with you Gregg that it is not a slam-dunk. They could have completed one of those passes. The Steelers needed to gain 40 yards to reach field goal range. They came out throwing 20 yard passes on first and second down and put themselves into a tough spot where they were scared to throw on third down and essentially gave up trying for the first down because they realized another incomplete pass would leave the Ravens with too much time and a time-out. I suggest that if they ran on first down and let some time run off the clock, they could have then been more aggressive on the following downs without fear of the Ravens having time to respond if they failed. With two time-outs, they would have still had enough time to reach field goal range with a big play or two. The inexperienced, third string, QB only exacerbated the matter.
