Clocks

My opinion is that the 12/2 typical ABT setting are adequate -- the experiences noted in LA not withstanding. I feel most, if not all, of the time problems experienced in LA were from poor time management and/or disregard (inattention) of the clock.
Also, to comment on the illegal plays thread here, and in recognition of other things I saw in LA, I unfortunately think if there is any way for someone to try to game or abuse the system of rules to their advantage then someone will do it. I think the penalties for such abuse of the systems should be severe.
If someone can gain a playing advantage from an illegal play -- someone will do it. If someone can gain a clock advantage by making illegal plays -- someone will do it. Jason and I talked at length about people timing out. He contended he would hate to see someone time out because of cocked dice and that an allowance should be made to accommodate such. I agree it would be unfortunate to time out because of a cocked die, but I'll guarantee you that you make such an exception and someone will take advantage of it. I'm disappointed that I am becoming increasingly cynical in this regard but I see far too much abuse. Make the penalties severe -- and publicize the violations.
