I was not saying that it was your obligation to discover the mistake. I said that while the TD is responsible for the mistake, it is not an appropriate remedy to remove him from the tournament after he's already won 5 matches or however many, and to give you a free pass into the finals. If the result of your match can be reversed on the grounds that your opponent shouldn't have been in the event in the first place, the results of all his prior matches could equally well be reversed. You clearly think you were entitled to some compensation for this mistake - tell me, what compensation do you think the other players who lost to this person deserve?
The fact that this was the Intermediate bracket strongly supports my point that a lot of players in this guy's position would have no idea that they weren't supposed to be in the tournament.
