I was not suggesting that he wanted to be paid money today. I was suggesting that it was a bit ridiculous for him to think the TDs should have done something for him and him alone, while all the other people who lost to this entrant are simply screwed.

I think it would be completely arbitrary to say, "Okay, you never should have been in this event, so we're going to reverse the result of your most recent match and give the loser a win, but all the people who lost to you previously are still losers." The only person who could see that as a sensible solution, it seems to me, is the person who lost the most recent match.

It would make more sense, although still far from a perfect solution, to say "Okay, you're forfeited out of the tournament now and your next opponent gets a bye." On these facts, that would mean someone wins the tournament by default, which is hardly optimal. But it doesn't improve things to reverse the result of the guy's most recent match and leave all the others intact, which would be completely arbitrary.
