Double 3s

To clarify my original thought, after making the 10 point, non-doublet rolls such as 65 may be used to clear the mid-point on the next roll since the midpoint has only two checkers. After playing 7,13 these rolls do not clear the midpoint because there are three checkers positioned there. That was the point I was making, 2 checkers vs 3. I realize this is temporary of course. This leads to an extra 12 rolls (six of which leave indirects) which clear the midpoint next turn when the 10 point is made as compared to the 7,13 play. This is one of the advantages of the 10 point play to be mixed in with the other advantages and disadvantages mentioned by Nack and others.
