What is the wrong concept?

I may be making the same mistake as you, but then we can apply the "misery loves company" adage.
Blue would like to turn this into a race ASAP. However, I still hang onto the 18-point since 18/13, 18/15 appears to give White too many game savers (15 immediate hits and a second blot that needs to be cleaned up). Note that White could easily be leaving a blot in his homeboard soon -- that would be a better time to skedaddle (if the dice cooperate). Bottom line is that White's position isn't super diverse and giving him an easy out feels uncalled for.
13/8, 13/10 has the TMP look, but the midpoint and 8-point both provide some diversity if push comes to shove. The alternative 13/5 gives White a couple extra shots and the diversity of builders, although better, is still not so great.
The danger of getting trapped on the 18-point only becomes a real issue if White gets that single out of your homeboard. If you can put White in the air (and keep him there just one roll), the cube access probably means that you'll never really have to get off the 18-point.
Summary: 13/8, 13/10.
