In such a limited time it could be useful if the regular offence had the capability to kick a field goal without having to substitute. You would need an offensive player to have some competency at kicking field goals or get the kicker in on offence the play beforehand which would likely sacrifice too much. In my mind there is something to be said for a sport like soccer or basketball in which all of the players will need to use a complete skill set.
11 seconds sounded like too little. http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/football/articles/2009/12/31/air_force_picks_off_bowl_victory_over_houston/?page=2 says 17 seconds. Still impressive.
With only so many hours of practice time, it would be interesting to know what other and how much time was spent on other once or twice in a season situations.
