I remember 36ing this one while sitting next to Stick at the calcutta auction in Peoria 2008. That may sound really wierd, but yes, he was awake for the auction. He even bought a field.

I can't find my spreadsheet quickly this morning. Going by memory, I believe that at least part of the reason is that hitting after 43D leaves many strong return shots. While hitting after 54D leaves far fewer. In particular, note that there is duplication of several hitting fours from the bar (43 & 54). However, entering ones are not particularly good if they can't be used to hit on the nine point. Therefore, the hit is more valuable after 54D.

I remember thinking there was more to this one than I was seeing, so someone else may have more to add.
