I'd like to jump into it, but unfortunately my computer is much too slow to tackle opening positions.
.0098 is huge from the perspective that there is some erronious calculations involved.
Well, there are some differences in the two bots' play of the two sides, that add up to a 0.0098 (plus/minus something) difference. Where all the errors actually are would be hard to find. That is, for all we know, for instance (1) either bot is making errors on both sides and (2) while we know that the XG and GNUBG results differ by 0.0098, we don't know far either bot is from the perfect-play value.
David, did you mean to imply, as your comments seemed to me to imply, that we should expect today's bots to roll out first and second roll positions to within 0.010 accuracy, compared to the perfect-play value?
And (in the department of suggesting work for other people to do -- apologies!) I wonder what results Gnubg 3-ply checker play would get for the two plays.
