New Mexico Calcutta

For those of you who really don't like Calcutta's, don't come. For those who do, come. As for those who say the purpose of the Calcutta is to raise money for the organizers, I say that is only one of the purposes. Others include: giving us all a chance to have additional action; having a chance to own a piece of some others; having a chance to feel like you are on a team, and have others to root for and to root for you; and an opportunity to have a little fun at the auction itself. Also, it gives everyone an opportunity to socialize and get to know others a little more.
I hope you didn't make my statement of perhaps it's time to do something other than calcuttas as me not liking calcuttas. I think the main reason calcuttas are done are for the organizers to make some money. The other benefits you list are true but without the monetary kickback for the staff it would cease to exist in a heartbeat. I like calcuttas when I am well rested enough to get up for them. They're usually entertaining whether I bid or not and when I started playing bg helped me get acquainted with people I didn't know by name. (or should know but my memory is the worst in that realm, so having it drilled into my head always helps)
