'Early' plane flights

If someone enters an event knowing full well that they may have to make an early exit, they should be prepared to pay a premium.
I almost always plan my flights so that I can play the finals and still get to the airport. However sometimes there are major unforeseen delays that can make things tight.
I will generally work to accomodate someone who has to leave with a settlement in any side event. But split the pot down the middle because someone booked an early flight or entered an event they had no business entering? Don't insult me. I rarely hedge, so when I am put in a position where someone is really insistant, especially if it is someone I don't even know, I will insist back upon a favorable but not onerous split. Who knows what the exact fair skill adjusted settlement is other than playing the match, so why should I agree to settle for anything potentially not in my favor because someone wants to leave early? Time has value to the person or else they'd have booked a late flight like I did. Missed flight insurance does not come without paying a premium. If I'm the guy who has to leave, I'd expect to be the one paying a premium. The knife cuts both ways.
Anyway, do I think you're an asshole? Not because of this. Do I think you could have offered to negotiate a settlement that you both would walk away happy with? Sure.
Sometimes its not even a flight, or even a desire to leave the building. I had a 5-point jackpot final against a guy in Vegas who wanted to just split the pot so that he could have more time to gamble in the casino. I said no, lets just play. He kept pushing to split. Finally i told him that I'd accept a 5:4 split of the pot. He was insulted like I was trying to steal money from him. So we played. He won the first game and lead 1-0. Now he makes me another offer to split the pot evenly again. Well working the match equities, 4-away 5-away is about a 5:4 favorite (a bit more), so I agree and we both walk away happy. He gets half the pot, I get my 5:4 odds.
