I don't see how failing to show up for an award and taking unfair advantage of a public opportunity to give a biased view of a situation are even on the same page.

I had several thoughts during the long speech to consider what others were thinking. I didn't mention Ray's periodic interjection of axioms, none of which I can remember. However I did think of an appropriate one myself: "there are two sides to ever story".

Rob made a great effort to bring new players onto the tournament scene by making the Novice event ENTRY FREE while at the same time providing a prize pool and trophies. 22 players took advantage of that opportunity. So among the 100+ audience members for the speech were several easily impressionable newbies. Imagine having the excitement of your first big weekend tournament tarnished by a long, selfish display. Further, without hearing the other side, I can imagine many of these (and others) actually believing everything they heard.

Backgammon isn't a perfect world. Who said it was? Anyone can complain about it. A champion looks for ways to make it better for everyone.
