I have a way of making this less likely to happen. When my opponent is closed out, as soon as I clear a point, when I hit the clock, I hit it and keep my hand on it momentarily, to prevent them from just whacking the clock mindlessly.

I'm always aware of when this is coming up and going to happen but I don't feel a need to linger on my own clock. Let them hit their clock so you can point and laugh at them ... then make them play their turn.
