One subject I forgot to discuss was whether or not the oppt should have doubled. The answer is no and the reason is that the trailer has enough raw winning chances to take in a position where there are lots of g's floating around. If the oppt can take, doubling reduces the value of the leader's g's (all the way to zero if the trailer redoubles)and increases the value of the trailer's. The trailer can then, to a greater extent than normal, go all out for the win with little or no fear of getting g'd when the game turns against him.
As the egotisical prick who runs this site says (paraphrasing)...If you're 3a and the oppt is 5 or more away, doubling a gammonish position is probably a mistake if the oppt can take the cube.
It really pains me to compliment Stick, but I've gotta give him credit for this advice. :)
