Touch moves and specious arguments

"Specious" (meaning plausible but not genuine) is a favorite word among lawyers, especially in litigation. The adversaries' arguments are always specious, or perhaps "spurious" or "ill-considered". In this case, there are a number of logical arguments AGAINST touch move. First, it is more difficult for some players than other to conceptualize how the board will look after a particular move. It is another rule that would favor stronger players. Second, it is hard to imagine that "he said- she said" arguments would NOT arise on whether a checker was touched. Finally, and this may depart slightly from the realm of pure logic -- traditionally, BG has been a fast, informal game. It is not chess, despite the efforts of many in the BG community to move it in that direction.
Efficiency is not the only virtue.
