Stick, Square dice may still be used in LV, but their board is meters long and wide while ours is smaller and we like bevelled (ball cornered) dice, that roll better.

This is what I knew - basically our dice in backgammon are how they are because we have less playing surface to work with and also because we don't want the dice damaging the playing surface. It's no big deal for a casino to resurface their craps table, they have to do that anyway, but to resurface expensive bg sets because of square dice would be a horror.

The way Phil presented it came off to me as if there was another reason other than the above mentioned and that's what I was curious about.
