You just can't make this stuff up!

3.3 EQUIPMENT CHANGES. The Director may replace equipment at any time. Otherwise the equipment initially selected shall be used throughout.

This makes it clear that both players must agree to use a baffle box at the beginning of the match and may not agree to add such equipment once the match has begun. As stated, only the director has this power.

"A baffle box may be used by agreement of both players"

As a director, I would rule that if both players agreed to use a baffle box and had no other discussion regarding its use, that as a default they MUST use it for every roll for the entire match. However, the statement as written is ambiguous and does seem to allow the players to agree to make the baffle box equipment in the match and also stipulate as part of their agreement (if they are both similarly insane as this player) that its use on any given roll was optional.

My comment here is that if anything seems ridiculous and is bothersome as a result - seek the director. The director will either ease your mind by explaining to you why the behavior is reasonable, or ease your mind by explaining to your opponent why it is not.
