Alan Rosenberg defeated Brenda Cohen to win the BEGINNER division of the IBA's 6th Annual New York State Championships held at the Loew's Summit Hotel 1-2 January 1983. There was technically no New York State Championship held in 1982 because the 5th Annual event was held 26-27 December 1981.
