Really? :-)

Phil, you mention the cups as well. Could I ask you to answer the same question that I asked Bob earlier? (why are cups needed)?

The points you state about fast, problem-free rolls, no dice cocked or on the floor, etc. is the exact reason why I prefer to use boxes in speedgammon matches - there seems to be a tendency more frequent re-rolls needed, when players are stressed for time. But in that scenario, using the cups to throw dice into the box (that ensures random rolls) is only additional waste of time, and depending on the cups/box used, you risk missing the box when throwing (because I assume that you would recommend lipped cups to be used over normal cups?).

Why is it that random x random is more random?

---

Maybe it all has to do with the box-design I don't know? My box throws the dice so you cannot cheat (if you use non-crooked dice, that is), and you can adjust the throw to a certain degree, to match the board used (height, angle/speed).

But a response to you question about no possible scenarios where bafflebox is not the solution! Well, if you must use lipped cups anyway, then I'd say that the bafflebox is superfluous if the players are capable of making random rolls without it (and it could add a little time to each move - about a second I recon)

---

Stick: You ask about "what if my opponent bring his own suspicious bafflebox"? Read the DBgF rules for baffleboxes to see the solution to that problem: The box must be approved by the TD.

And I guess you could say the same for clocks: If you are to play a distrustful opponent that you know have previous been involved in cheating, and he pulls out his clock - would you trust that clock to run precise at both ends? If not should we then stop using clocks altogether?
