Rules of backgammon

1. I have yet to see a "rigged" baffle box, and question how it could be rigged to help one player vs. the other....I think this argument is a real red herring;
2. If you suspect the baffle box, just as if you suspect the dice or the board or anything else, then check it out or ask for a neutral one;
3. The reason I advocate cups with the box is for several reasons: a) I have been told that there are players who have demonstrated that, with some baffle boxes, they are able to put the dice into the box by hand in a manner where they can affect the roll (I think this would be very difficult with a good box); b) even if you can't affect the dice without a cup, it just gives players a better feeling to see the cup; and c) many players who are not used to the box have objected because they say they like the feeling of shaking the dice, so they can continue to have that feeling; d) when one player is rolling, I think it's a good idea that the other player's dice are residing in a cup instead of in the hand--less opportunity for switching the dice.
