In Response To: Questions about swiss tie-break in backgammon tournaments (Mislav Radica)

1) I've used Buchholz, throwing out the lowest two opponent scores. But only for awarding trophies -- if for example 3 players were tied for 2nd, 3rd and 4th, place, they'd each get an equal share of 2nd+3rd+4th place money.

2) Random. Even a long-time ELO system has too much variance to be a reliable indicator of strength. The only tournament I know that makes pairings by rank is the 128-player Danish championship.

3) Ask DBgf what they use, if any. Manual is not hard, for small tournaments. I've explained how this is done in a post some months ago.

4) Irrelevant.
