Why do we minimise epc ?

In fact, maybe it seems so intuitive that you are wondering why it's not strictly true.

To be more specific, there are times in a race in which you make those "desperation" checker plays that cater to the rare sequence that you really need in order to win. Those moves are likely to not minimize epc. I really should just go find an example.
