Are Advanced Round Entries Fair?

It is true. Superstar has more equity entering in the first round than entering in the finals. If he could enter that event 32 times, he should win considerably more money on average. However, if an average player knew that if he got to the finals and was guaranteed to play Superstar in the finals, I doubt that he would be happy. If Superstar played in the first round, he's less than even money to make it past the second round. Since Superstar is an elite player, there would most likely be far more average players entered in an event than players of Superstar's caliber who by his very definition cannot be commonplace. Therefore Superstar becomes a 70% roadblock to cashing. If he enters in the first round, it is most like that one of the average players would not have to face him. If there are 18 average players and 18 players of Superstar's caliber all entered in the first round, then a good case can be made for an average player to buy his way to the finals. Since in most cases, the top players are the most likely to bypass rounds, then the roadblock effect takes place. Their equity may suffer but their profit increases. By entering in the finals, he has in effect taken 16 spots in the draw even though he paid for those spots and decreased his equity by doing so. I would rather see him in the draw just once.
