Are Byes Fair? Is Life Fair?

Some people are concerned about what is "fair."
I have discovered, documented, verified and reported that if the number of entries in a draw is not one of the numbers on the doubling cube (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64), then some people will get byes. Is this fair? I would like to see an open bidding system to award byes. This would put more money into the prize pool and benefit the directors who would rake their percentage from the additional entry fees. It would also be much more fair.
Having different people pay twice as much to enter a different round is a lot fairer than randomly awarding byes.
When two people pay the same entry fee, do we really want Player A to have twice the chance of winning the tournament as Player B, before either of them has begun his first match?
Is it "fair" that some people are better backgammon players than others? Is it "fair" that some people win the lottery for byes? Is it "fair" that some people are born rich?
Is life "fair?"
