Hopefully not surprisingly, I agree that public "discussion" on this matter, particularly with sketchy facts, would be inappropriate and specifically unfair to Rod.
However, I do believe that items can (and should) be posted to this forum even if they are inappropriate as discussion topics.
Having said that, it is still worth considering (as apparently many have done) a couple issues:
1) Is information in the New York Post reliable? Daniel and Richard seem to indicate that it may not be.
2) Should the private lives of backgammon personalities be kept private? This seems to be an issue up for debate (in more popular areas like sports, entertainment, and politics) within the journalism community in general. In the last couple of decades (and probably longer), the evolution has been towards less allowance for private matters.
Like it or not, the internet is the new world information medium, and it brings with it more, not less, individual responsibility on what to believe and what to suspect. Personally I'd rather know what is out there and then be allowed to draw my own conclusions than to be kept in the dark.
